I never started taking photos and drawing the things close to me until my dog Shadow got old. I think it hit me then that I needed to catalogue these things. My memory isn’t the best, so having photos helps me keep those memories closer to my chest. I’ll be posting the memorial drawings here, both of my own animals and those commissioned to me from others. I feel cataloging it is a way of honoring that memory.

I talk about the Rainbow Bridge a lot and often include it in my memorial drawings, but another thing I’ll often mention is “the meadow”. This is something that stemmed from a reoccurring dream I’ve had. Essentially a place where the animals that have passed now hang out. An endless expanse of forests and flowers, dotted with cabins and little places of rest for the people who’ve passed to hang around in too. In my mind the meadow is what you arrive at upon crossing that “rainbow bridge”.

Shadow - 10/26/04 to 12/01/20

I started this memorial wall with Shadow. She was a sweet girl, and her best friend Roxie is on here too. Shadow was what kicked off my need to memorialize everything, I suppose. I wish I’d started doing it sooner, but I’m glad I started it either way. Thank you Shadow.

Roxie Lou - 05/06/08 to 05/20/21

Roxie and Shadow were best friends. They grew up with us in Oregon alongside our cat Bugsy (who I unfortunately have no pictures of). Shadow was given to family for a period of time, but even when returning the two of them continued to be close. They’re together now.

Joe Joe - 08/09/07 to 01/09/23

Joe Joe was actually my partner’s dog, but he became part of the family later in life. He excelled at grumbling, giving puppy-dog eyes, and sitting on feet. Mojo Joe Joe would (funny enough) ‘bully’ our bigger dogs out of their beds, though it was more like he wanted to cuddle and they didn’t. Joe joined everyone up in the meadow after being fed like royalty in his majestic little throne. Pictured in the drawing are two little toys we got in his memory: a little elephant with floppy ears like Joe’s, and a felted pug potato for our PotatoDoe.

Naks - 12/18/08 to 12/15/22

Naks was the first commissioned memorial I did, a sweet little pug who hung out with his friend Ogi (pictured to the right in the drawing). I hope Ogi is doing well without their lovely little friend, but Naks will be waiting to see them someday. Rest in Peace Naks.

Magnus - 01/17/11 to 07/14/23

Magnus was our chocolate lab. He loved chewing wood and was a big, lazy boy. He loved Roxie and him and Fiona were sad when she passed. Mag had a lot of health problems and as a result he had very few teeth, so when he’d play and bite he’d be all gums. It took me a long time to do a drawing for Mag, almost a year after his passing. I still feel like I should’ve done more, but I’m glad I got around to memorializing him. He deserves all the treats.

Sheba - 07/15/21 to 07/24/24

Sheba was the second commission I did, a sweet little cat with an adorable face. I’m sure she’s visiting her family every now and again, and I hope her family is doing well.

Pudding- passed 09/03/24

I don’t know a lot about Pudding, but the little bit I know painted them as a sweet little animal. Rest in Peace Pudding.

Daisy - 2013 to 2024

Tasha - 2009 to 2023

Daisy and Tasha originally started as just a memorial for Daisy, but Tasha was brought up in conversation as we talked and I added her in too. These two were close friends, and I hope they’re getting up to some great adventure now that they’ve reunited in the meadow.
